Burning Salt Water
A retired broadcast engineer who had an idea for curing cancer, ended up discovering a way to separate the hydrogen and oxygen from salt water using radio waves.
In this video, it's touted as a potential power source for cars, but I have to ask ... surely, the power required to generate the radio waves is more than that produced by the combustion? Just look at the size of the setup he's using!

3D Holographic Display
According to this article at PC Pro, a German company named SeeReal is developing a 3D holographic video display.They gave a demo at a recent forum of the Society for Information Display.
