Phillip Toledano

Via Neatorama, I found the website of Phillip Toledano.

He has some absolutely wonderful photographs.

I'm not sure precisely why, but for some reason, this one attracted me :-).

Don't worry, the others are much more interesting.

Simulated Camera

The SimCam is an online simulation of a camera that allows you to see the effects of shutter, aperture, film speed and camera shake.

It's intended as a learning tool, to save you taking a few hundred shots just to see what changing various parameters does to your photos.

Of course, in these days of digital SLRs, it's probably just as easy to actually go out and try it yourself, but it's an interesting idea.

Visual Puns

While trying to track down a cute picture for the previous article about bird brains, I came across this fun competition site where the objective is to create visual puns.

Some of them are quite good, others are shocking, but it's well worth a look.

In case you hadn't guessed it, this one was "Make Up Your Mind". No discussion of the mind-brain dichotomy will be entered into.

Nice Photographic Image Site

The Digital Photography Challenge site hosts competitions for people to provide their best shots that fit into some category.

The one shown here is a single drop of milk rebounding from the surface of a cup of coffee.

A good place to start is their archives page, which features the winners of previous competitions.

The Best Thing About A Hangover ...

... is the next day, when you wake up and you feel 110% because you don't feel like you did the day before!

As promised, here are a couple more pictures from the Forge/Integeo Bah Humbug drinks last Friday: the one with the most people (note the strange Kirlian aura around Eric), one of Michael doing his best impression of King Crimson's album cover from In The Court of the Crimson King, and one of Andy enjoying some quiet time.

An Excellent Image Viewer/Editor

I decided to go looking for some software to aid in the review of last night's photographic record.

In the past, I've just used Picasa, but given that I hadn't yet installed it on my machine since I upgraded a couple of months ago, I figured I might as well see what else was around.

After a bit of Google-ing, I found the FastStone Image Viewer. It's free for non-commercial use, but after playing with it for ten minutes, I decided it was so good that I happily coughed up the $US34.95 for a full licence, to help them finance its further development.

Check it out. I think you'll like it!

So That's Where I Was Last Night!

I knew, the second I woke up this morning, that I'd been out last night.

I'm not sure what gave it away first ... the gentle throbbing of my head, in time to the chirping of the bird outside my window, or the fact that my mouth tasted like I'd licked the bottom of its nest.

Everything was going fine ... right up until that second bottle of red :-).

So, I grabbed my camera and found these (along with 90 other images of the evening). Ah yes, the Forge/Integeo Bah Humbug celebrations, 2006 edition!

It was a very enjoyable afternoon/evening. I'll post a few more photos over the next couple of days. Maybe it's time to finally get that flickr account ...
