My good mate Abhay told me about these a few months ago.
The idea is to hoist a sail high into the atmosphere, where the winds are very strong. Assuming they're blowing in the right direction, the ship gets a nice boost and its fuel requirements are significantly reduced.
Apparently they're almost ready to go to market.
